Tropical Cyclone 07P (Victor) remains active…located about 473 miles east-southeast of Suva, Fiji

Tropical Cyclone 08S (Corentin) remains active…located about 758 miles south of Diego Garcia

Tropical Cyclone 07P (Victor) remains active in the South Pacific Ocean…swinging by just offshore to the southeast of Tonga

Here’s a satellite image of this tropical cyclone…along with what the computer models are showing…and a near real time wind profile (spinning clockwise in the southern hemisphere)

This storm was located about 473 NM east-southeast of Suva, Fiji

According to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), satellite imagery shows a fully exposed low level circulation center, with minimal deep convection being sheared to the east of the system.

TC Victor is being steered west-southwest, and has entered a region of increasingly strong wind shear, and decreasing sea surface temperatures.

These unfavorable environmental conditions have contributed to rapid weakening of the system over the past 12 hours…and is expected to fully dissipate within 36 hours.

Weather model guidance indicates the system may regain intensity within a trough of low pressure after 36 hours, as it attains subtropical characteristics.

Maximum sustained winds as of the JTWC Warning #16 were 40 knots with gusts of 50 knots

Tropical Cyclone 08S (Corentin) remains active in the South Indian Ocean…staying away from land

Here’s a satellite image of this tropical cyclone…along with what the computer models are showing…and a near real time wind profile (spinning clockwise in the southern hemisphere)

This storm was located about 758 NM south of Diego Garcia

According to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), satellite imagery shows deep convective cloud banding wrapping tightly into a low level circulation center. A recent image shows an eye feature, with the deepest central convection over the western and northern peripheries of the storm.

Upper level analysis indicates the environment is favorable for additional development, with low 5-10 knot wind shear…and excellent dual channel outflow.

TC Corentin is currently tracking southwestward, where warm sea surface temperature support intensification. In the forecast period 72-96 hours, this system will begin to slow and become near stationary.

After 120 hours, the system will begin to accelerate towards the south and southeast. It is forecast to reach peak intensity around 36-48 hours, which will be 90 knots with gusts to near 110 knots.

Thereafter, the system will begin to gradually weaken as it tracks over colder water, and into a region with high wind shear aloft.

Maximum sustained winds as of the JTWC Warning #3 were 65 knots with gusts of 80 knots
