PDC Global Hazards Atlas displaying tropical cyclone Positions and Segments, and Estimated Winds (TAOS Model) layers for Tropical Cyclone Stan
Tropical Cyclone 09S (Stan) is taking aim on the northwest coast of Australia
This TC is located about 131 NM north-northwest of Port Hedland, Australia
According to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), satellite imagery depicts a broad cold dense overcast, with tight spiral cloud banding…wrapping into an obscured low level center.
Upper level analysis indicates a robust poleward outflow channel being offset by strong 25-30 knot wind shear.
TC Stan is currently tracking southeast, and will continue to do so throughout the forecast period.
Weather model guidance indicates wind shear should relax prior to landfall, allowing further intensification to between 55-60 knots.
Maximum sustained winds as of the JTWC Warning #3 were 45 knots with gusts of 55 knots
