Tropical Cyclone 11P (Winston) remains active…located about 182 NM northwest of Niue

Tropical Cyclone 13S (Uriah) remains active…located about 963 NM south-southeast of Diego Garcia

Tropical Cyclone 11P (Winston) remains active in the southwest Pacific…to the south of American Samoa and well east of Fiji

Here’s a satellite image of this strengthening tropical cyclone, what the computer models are showing…and a near real time wind profile (spinning clockwise in the southern hemisphere)

This tropical cyclone is located about 182 NM northwest of Niue

According to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), satellite imagery shows a l;arge ragged eye feature, with cloud top cooling observed within this eye over the past 6 hours. Meanwhile, microwave images depict an eye with tightly curved deep convective cloud banding…wrapping into the system.

Upper level analysis indicates a favorable environment for development, with a good poleward outflow channel and weak 5-10 knot wind shear.

TC Winston has begun to pick up forward speed after being nearly stationary over the past 24 hours.

After 48 hours, the system will begin to re-curve to the south and then southeast by 120 hours.

TC Winston is forecast to strengthen slightly through the 12-24 hour time period, as wind shear remains weak, and sea surface temperatures remain favorable. After 24 hours, the system will weaken gradually as it tracks over colder water. Winston will begin to weaken more rapidly after 48 hours…as it moves into an area with increasing wind shear aloft.

Maximum sustained winds as of the JTWC Warning #22 were 100 knots with gusts of 125 knots

Niue is a large upraised coral atoll island located east of Tonga. Niue is one of the smallest countries that has one of the largest raised coral atolls on Earth.

Tonga is a Polynesian kingdom that consists of 176 islands, 40 of which are inhabited. Tonga is made up of four major island groups – Tongatapu and ‘Eua in the south, Ha’apai group in the center…and Vava’u group in the north.

Tropical Cyclone 13S (Uriah) remains active in the South Indian Ocean…away from land

Here’s a satellite image of this tropical cyclone…along with what the computer models are showing…and a near real time wind profile

This tropical cyclone is located about 963 NM south-southeast of Diego Garcia

According to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), satellite imagery depicts rapidly decaying deep convection. In addition, imagery reveals a partially exposed low level circulation center, with the bulk of the deep convective cloud banding confined to the southern semi-circle.

Upper level analysis depicts moderate to strong wind shear, offset by enhanced poleward outflow.

TC 13S is tracking southward, however, the system is expected to slow significantly after 24 hours. After 72 hours, will begin to accelerate south-southeastward.

Thereafter, TC Uriah should continue to weaken rapidly, due to persistent wind shear. As this storm tracks south of 25S latitude, it will encounter colder sea surface temperatures…which will lead to dissipation by 96 hours.

Maximum sustained winds as of the JTWC Warning #11 were 90 knots with gusts of 110 knots
